We Heard From

2000’s
April (Jones) Denton, Class of 2005, and her husband, Bradley, Class of 2005, live in Haysville, KS. April is employed as a Respite Para at Rainbows United, Inc. Bradley is a Systems Analyst for Koker, Goodwin and Associates. Bradley graduated from Southwestern College in 2007, while April graduated from Friends University in 2009. The couple married in June, 2008.

Marcy (Hills) Reed, Class of 2005, lives in Arkansas City. She is employed as an administrative assistant at Source One/GE. She has three boys, Sustin 15, Tyler 14, and Kolby 8.

Michael Lindal, Class of 2005, lives in San Bernadino, CA. He is employed as a food and beverage operations manager for the Inland Empire 66ers baseball team.

Paul Kapalata, Class of 2005, lives in Wichita, KS. He graduated from Wichita State University in 2007 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Finance at Newman University. He loved his time at Cowley and still misses the great environment it has to offer.

Ethan Bartlett, Class of 2005, lives in Arkansas City. After graduating from Cowley College, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business management from Friends University in Wichita, KS.

1990’s
Kellie (Wolfe) Lemasters, Class of 1998, and her husband, Clint, live in Kansas City, Mo. The couple have three sons, Cole 7, Jack 4, and Max 20 months.

1980’s
Piper (Jackson) Ayala, Class of 1984, and her husband, David, live in Wichita, KS. Piper is the vice president of Marriott ExecuStay and oversees the operations of eight offices throughout the Midwest. David is employed at Spirit Aerosystems. During her time at Cowley, Piper was a photographer for the school newspaper and yearbook, and served as a cheerleader for the football and basketball teams. After Cowley, she completed her bachelor’s degree at Wichita State University and began working at the YWCA as a fitness director. She started working for Suite options Corporate Housing in 1992 and in 2004 Suite Options became a Marriott ExecuStay. Piper has three step children, Bret 26, Erica 24, Justin 23, and three grandchildren.

Ben Anderson, Class of 1983, and his wife, Linda, live in Haysville, KS. Ben is a corrections officer for the Sedgwick County Juvenile Detention Center. He has fond memories of playing for the Tiger football team in the final year of the program. He learned several valuable life lessons from Tiger football head coach Bill Yocum, as well as assistant coaches James Miesner and Larry Lauderdale. After Cowley, he went on to play football at Friends University in Wichita and earned a bachelor’s degree in education. He and Linda have two sons, Travis 16 and Tanner 14.

1970’s
S.A. (Al) Sehsuvaroglu, Class of 1976, lives in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where he manages a small energy consulting firm. He previously served as president and CEO of two start-up oil companies in Tasmania (Australia) and Kazakhstan. Prior to that he was a senior vice president of a successful oil company in Kazakhstan, after having served 24 years in various engineering and management positions all over the world with Halliburton Energy Services. He returned to Arkansas City in 2007 to attend his high school’s 35th reunion and visited the college while he was back in town. He has three children, Severine 36, Douglas 23, and Christopher 15.

Rod Elder, Class of 1972, lives in Manhattan, KS. Elder is an architect and assistant professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering and Construction Science, College of Engineering, at Kansas State University. He retired in 2000 as a commander of the Civil Engineering Corps in the United States Navy. Elder earned a masters degree in Environmental Planning and Management from Kansas State University in May, 2009. He has two grown sons that live in Topeka.

1960’s
Nancy (Henton) McCarren, and her husband, Tom, live in Crossville, TN. The couple are enjoying retirement.

1950’s
Lyle Anstine, Class of 1954, and his wife, Norma, live in Hutchinson, KS. Lyle, who is retired from working in the Hutchinson School System, was inducted into the Kansas Teachers’ Hall of Fame on June 6, 2009.

Verle Goodnight, Class of 1957, and his wife, Harriet, live in Orange Park, FL. While attending Arkansas City Junior College, Goodnight was a cheerleader and editor of the ACJC Annual. The couple, which are retired, have one son, John Zimmerman.

1940’s
Fred Wollard, Class of 1947, and his wife, Faye, live in Oklahoma City, OK. Wollard returned to college at age 62 and earned a master’s degree in education and a teaching certification in foreign language from Oklahoma City University. He taught 16 years in Oklahoma City Public Schools before retiring in 2006. Prior to his teaching career, Wollard spent 14 years working for the General Motors Corporation, and 15 years owning and operating pet shops in Oklahoma City. He has wonderful memories of his time as a student as Arkansas City Junior College.
