We Heard From . . .

2010’s
Catheryn Vickers, Class of 2010, and her daughter, Hope 14, live in Blackwell, OK.

2000’s
Justin Cacaro, Class of 2009, is a student at the University of Tennessee at Martin. At Cowley, Cacaro earned Coaches Association All-American honors as a sophomore member of the cross country team. He also was named an All-Conference/All-Region performer. This past season at the University of Tennessee at Martin, Cacaro broke two school records and earned the first ever First-Team Ohio Valley Conference honors in the program’s history. He is majoring in sports management and plans to graduate in 2011.

Hillary (Mount) Jantzen, Class of 2005, lives in Wichita.

Renee (Bruce) Combes, Class of 2004, and her husband, Travis, live in Augusta. Renee is a account services representative for Cox Communications, while Travis works for a construction company.

Kacie (Kennedy) Martin, and her husband, Richard, live in Haysville, KS. The couple have three children, Cameron 9, Caden 5, and Abigail 1. Kacie is a special education para at USD 259 Little Early Childhood Education Center.

Blake and Amanda (Krueger) Stites, Class of 2002, live in Harrisonville, MO. Ten years after meeting at Cowley College, the couple were married at their country home. Amanda graduated from the University of Kansas in 2005 with a B.A. in English/Creative Writing with a sociology minor. While, Blake graduated from Pittsburg State in 2004 with a B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering. Amanda is a manager for Foreclosure Management Company of Overland Park, KS, for five years. Blake is a numerical control analyst for Honeywell in Kansas City. The couples’ favorite memory of Cowley is playing husband and wife in the spring play “Rumors”.

Daniel Hewitt, Class of 2002, and his wife, Ashley, live in Emmetsburg, Iowa. After Cowley, Hewitt attended Wichita State University’s drawing and painting program thanks to the influence of Cowley art instructor Mark Flickinger. He graduated from WSU with a Bachelor Degree in Art Education and took a teaching job at a small school in Northwest Iowa. He currently serves as a high school art teacher, varsity wrestling coach, and eighth grade football coach in the Estherville Lincoln Central Community School District. His wife, Ashley, is an optomotrist assistant. He stays in touch with many of his friends from his time at Cowley and considers them to be some of the greatest people that he knows.

Allyson (Hills) Bass, Class of 2002, and her husband, Harold, live in Lordsburg, New Mexico. Allyson is an office manager for Emergency Road Service.

Adrianne Ryel, Class of 2000, and her husband, Andrew Meyer, live in Perry, KS. The couple has two children, Natalie 4, and Hannah 1. Adrianne is a convention sales manager for Visit Topeka Inc. Some of her favorite memories of Cowley College are of being a Student Ambassador and attending the school’s baseball games.

1990’s
Jason Patty, Class of 1999, and his wife, Elizabeth, live in El Dorado. Jason is an account manager for Westar Energy, while Elizabeth is an elementary teacher. The couple have two daughters, Brennan 10, and Isabel 5.

Helen (Mitchell) England, Class of 1995, and her husband, Tim, live in Tea, South Dakota. After Cowley, Helen went on to earn degrees in Business Quality Management and Computer Operations Technology from Southwestern College. She is currently employed as a quality program manager for Adams Thermal Systems, while Tim is a maintenance supervisor. The couple have two children, Carrissa 30, and Corey 27.

Dana (Haynes) Palmer, Class of 1994, and her husband, Dustin, lives in Peyton, CO. The couple have one son, David 11. Dana earned a BSCJ from Washburn University in 1998 and worked for the Kansas Parole Board while completing college. After graduation she began a career in marketing. She worked as a marketing and promotions coordinator for Professionals Choice Auto Parts until 2003, and then served as a account manager for Datacore Marketing from 2003-2005. In 2005, she was diagnosed with stage IV brain cancer and was told she had just 3-12 months to live. After retiring in 2005, she has spent the last five years volunteering as a marketing director for a host of organizations.

1980’s
Patricia (Bergmann) Waltman, Class of 1989, lives in Lincoln, KS. She is a RN/BSN at Good Samaritan Society. Her grandson, Craig Cropek, is a student at Cowley College and is majoring in art.

1970’s
Walter (Wally) Lewis, Class of 1973, and his wife, Kathleen Brown, live in Reno, Nevada. Walter has worked as a psychiatric nurse counseling veterans at the V.A. Hospital in Reno, Nevada since 2003. Kathleen is a retired educator. The couple has one son, Matthew 33.

Donald Hodge, Class of 1971, lives in Vale, Oregon. Donald is a retired commercial banker, who went into banking in 1975 with US Bank and retired in 2007. While at Cowley, he was a member of the football team and the first baseball team in school history. He went on to play two seasons of baseball at Eastern Oregon State College in La Grande, Oregon and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education. He played semipro baseball in La Grande, Oregon from 1973-1975 before entering the banking profession. He has one son, Matthew Jackson Hodge, 24, who is a paramedic with Life Flight in Medford, Oregon.

1960’s
Jerry Cantrell, Class of 1963, and his wife, Yvonne, live in Pueblo, CO. The couple has two children, Amy 36, and Adam 34. After Cowley, Jerry went on to graduate from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, in 1966. He recently retired after a 36 year career with the Board of Water Works of Pueblo, CO. He credits business classes taken at Cowley College with helping lay the foundation for a successful career. Yvonne is employed as a school teacher.

1950’s
Jean (Kivett) Martin, Class of 1953, lives in Gainesville, FL. She is a retired instructor, which spent 15 years working for Santa Fe Community College. She credits Arkansas City Junior College (now Cowley College) with giving her a great start. Her husband, Frank, was a professor at the University of Florida prior to his death in 2009.

Harold Mansell, Class of 1958, lives in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico. He is a senior municipal judge for the state of New Mexico and has two children, Stephanie 51, and Jennifer 49.
