Tiger sports programs well represented on list of All-Academic Teams
The accolades continue to roll in for the Cowley College athletic department as they recently had seven athletic programs make the list of the 2010 NJCAA All-Academic Teams of the Year.
Cowley College athletic director Tom Saia is proud of the accomplishments made by the Tiger athletes in the classroom.
“This is a credit to our coaches and the quality of student-athletes they recruit,” Saia said. “These student-athletes have represented Cowley College well and will continue to do so in the future.”
Cowley was led by its indoor women’s track team finishing second with a 3.17 cumulative grade point average. Lady Tiger indoor track team members Cecilia Burley (Distinguished Academic All-American), Robin Ray (Academic All-American), and Leigh Ann Omarkhail made up the half marathon team, which also placed second with a combined 3.50 GPA.
The trio were also part of the women’s outdoor track team that finished fifth among all NJCAA Division I schools with a 3.12 GPA, and the Lady Tiger cross country team, which placed sixth with a 3.40 GPA.
Led by Brittney Laner and Natalia Medina being named Distinguished Academic All-Americans, the Lady Tiger tennis team had the fourth highest GPA (3.42) among women’s tennis programs.
With Ashley Spencer and Taylor Cantillon garnering Academic All-American honors, the Cowley softball team placed eighth with a 3.45 GPA. While, the Lady Tiger volleyball team finished 41st with a 3.19 GPA.
