We Heard From

James Daniel Pugh, Class of 2009, lives in Wichita. After completing the AAS-MICT program at Cowley, he received a Bachelors of Science, Organizational Management & Leadership degree from Friends University in Jan. 2011. He has been accepted to start a Masters of Arts program, Conflict Management & Dispute Resolution at Baker University this summer. He currently serves as an adjunct lecturer in Cowley College’s Allied Health Department and is a Logistics Coordinator for Butler County EMS. Pugh firmly believes his experience at Cowley provided a strong educational foundation.

Deidre Edwards, Class of 2005, lives in Wichita, KS. After Cowley, she graduated from Wichita State University with a Masters of Arts in Criminal Justice. She is currently employed as a Program Manager of GoodGuides Youth Mentoring Program at Goodwill Industries of Kansas. She has five children, LaKeidric 20, LaChema 19, JaQuan 15, Amari 11, and Anajeh 2.

Kelley (McCarthy) Lowe, Class of 2003, and her husband, Eric, Class of 2002, live in Lawrence. The couple met in an anthropology class taught by Kay Kautz at Cowley College’s Bloomenshine Center in Mulvane. After receiving associate degrees from Cowley, the pair transferred to the University of Kansas and graduated from the school in 2005. Kelley received a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and a minor in African Studies, while Eric obtained a bachelor’s in Sociology and a minor in History. The couple married in 2008 on the KU campus and have one son, Jack, who will turn 1 in July.

Gary Mannebach, Class of 2001, lives in Kansas City, MO.

Joe Gerber, and his wife Amy, Class of 1995, live in Halstead. Joe is the assistant principal and head boys basketball coach at Halstead High School. Amy is employed as an RN at Newton Medical Center. The couple have four children, Braden 10, Karenna 7, Eli 4, and Joely 2.

Travis Say, Class of 1995, and his wife, Keely, live in Manhattan, KS. Travis works in sales for the Charlson and Wilson Insurance Agency, while Keely is a registered nurse. The couple have four children, Xander 8, Monroe 6, Jude 3, and Kingston, who was born on Oct. 22, 2010.

Toby Anglen, Class of 1993, and his wife, Brandie, live in Skiatook, OK. Toby, who played baseball at Cowley and then attended Arkansas State, was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1995. He is the owner of Next Level Baseball. The couple have two daughters, Taylor 10, and Rylee 7. They also have a son, Maddux 1.

Arlan Houghton, Class of 1980, and his wife, Mary Jo, live in Perry, OK. Arlan is a safety supervisor at The Charles Machine Works, Inc. The couple have two children, Andrew 22, and Michael 18.

Edna Robson, Class of 1949, lives in Little Rock, AR. After her time at ACJC, she went on to graduate from Marquette University. She is currently retired and has lived in Kansas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, and now Arkansas. She credits ACJC with providing her with a great foundation.

Robertha (Clack) Matranga, Class of 1935, and her husband, Oscar, live in Clovis, CA. Robertha is a retired registered dietitian.
