We Heard From
2000’s
Rebecca Baird, Class of 2006, lives in Arkansas
City, KS. After graduating from Cowley, she went on to attend Friends
University and graduated from the school in 2009 with a BA in communications.
She then spent two years as a staff writer at the Perry Daily Journal
in Perry, OK before being hired as a staff writer at the Winfield Daily
Courier in July, 2011.
Michael Lindal, Class of 2005, lives in San Antonio, Texas.
He is employed as the general manager of food and beverage at San Antonio
Missions.
Anna (Dewell) Bussart, Class of 2003, lives in Ponder, Texas.
After graduating from Cowley, she went on to earn a Masters degree
in Fine Arts in Radio, Television, & Film with an emphasis in Documentary
Film. She is employed as the project coordinator in the College of
Arts and Sciences, Dean’s Office at the Texas Women’s University.
She also works as a freelance graphic designer, web designer, and documentary
film maker. She has had her documentaries screened at festivals across
the United States.
Elizabeth (Lind) Harned, Class of 2002, and her husband, Brian,
live in Coon Rapids, MN, where Elizabeth is the director of Christian
Science Nursing. The couple has a daughter, Sara 19, who is attending
the University of Minnesota, and a son, Noah 16.
1990’s
Richard (Rick) Vann, Jr, Class of 1994, lives in
Wagoner, OK. After graduating from Cowley College, Richard went on to
receive a BA in Spanish from Wichita State University in 1997. He has
been teaching Spanish in the Wagoner (OK) Public School system since
2001. He taught Spanish at Wagoner Middle School for 10 years prior to
moving up to the high school Spanish teaching position at the beginning
of the 2011 school year. In 2003 he opened Vann Taekwondo, a martial
arts school in Wagoner. He has a daughter, Avery 14.
Lance Rhodd, Class of 1991, lives in Cedar Vale, KS. He serves
as the superintendent for USD 285 and recently received recognition
from the Kansas School Superintendents’ Association as a recipient
of the 2011 Superintendent of Promise Award. He has two children, Kathryn
16, and Noah 11.
Tracey (Alter) Willoughby, Class of 1994, lives in North Port,
FL. At Cowley, she was a member of the Tigerette Danceline, was in
the choir and show choir, and majored in biology. She is a registered
nurse at the Charlotte Regional Medical Center and has four children,
Anthony 17, Trey 12, Krysta 10, and Brady 7.
1980’s
Yolanda (Nichols) Boyd, who was a student at Cowley
College in the fall of 1986, and her husband, Timothy, live in Winfield,
KS. The couple have two children, Joey Lee Jr. 19, who was a student
at Cowley during the fall 2010 semester, and Nathaniel Lee 14. Yolanda
is the director of human relations at Southwestern College in Winfield,
KS.
David Smith, Class of 1984, and his wife, Audry, live in Independence,
KS. He has been employed as instructor of music at Neosho County Community
College for 10 years and has served as Honors Program Coordinator since
2007. He was recently named Liberal Arts Division Chair for the college
and has been a co-advisor for the Omega Iota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa
since 2010.
1970’s
Ken Peterman, Class of 1974, lives in Olathe, KS. He is employed as the Electrical Department Head for Home Depot. He previously spent 23 years working at ROLM, IBM, and Siemens. He has fond memories of his time at Cowley.
1930’s
Robertha (Clack) Matranga, Class of 1937, lives in Clovis, CA. She has fond memories of her time at the school and enjoyed the education she received.
