Cowley holds 89th Commencement
More than 280 students participated in Cowley College’s 89th Commencement exercises May 5 inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.
Along with the conferring of degrees, college alumnus Dr. Ruth David, President and Chief Executive Officer of Analytic Services, Inc, was presented with this year’s Outstanding Tiger Alumni Award. Dr. David is a 1973 graduate of Cowley College.
Dr. Andy Tompkins, President and CEO of the Kansas Board of Regents, addressed the graduating students and provided them with words of wisdom as they prepare to move on.
“The strength of the United States is education and the character of its people,” Dr. Tompkins said. “We are proud of you, care about you and wish you the best.”
Student Senate president Katelyn Edwards, and Student Senate vice president Charley Garrison, also addressed the class.
The students included summer 2011 graduates through summer 2012 graduates. Students who graduated last summer and last December have received their diplomas. Saturday’s graduates will receive their diplomas in June. A total of 627 students were candidates for graduation.
A reception for graduates, family members and friends was held immediately following the ceremony in the Earle N. Wright Community Room inside the Brown Center.
