Cowley senior program schedules fun classes, fun trips for spring
Attention, men and women 50 and over who participate in Cowley College’s Institute of Lifetime Learning spring semester: Get ready to have some fun!
The lineup of classes for the spring includes some that have been offered for years, plus a few new ones. The semester also includes fun trips, the popular AARP 55 Alive Driver Safety Program, and a spring picnic.
“We always try to offer some of the more popular classes each semester,” said Margaret Neal, program coordinator. “And each semester we try to offer a couple of new classes. Everyone who participates always has fun. We’re never too old to learn some things.”
Enrollment for the spring semester is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Earle N. Wright Community Room inside the Brown Center. Participants are asked to bring mailing labels to place on the enrollment form and sign-up sheets. Social Security numbers and date of birth are needed for student records and must be listed on all ILL enrollment forms. Enrollment by phone or mail will be accepted after Jan. 25.
Fees for classes and trips are to be paid at the time of enrollment. There is a $5 registration fee, plus a fee of $2 per class. Some classes have additional costs.
The first educational trip is planned for March 29 to Oklahoma. Stops will include the Omniplex in Oklahoma City and the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman. The group will depart from Ireland Hall on the Cowley College campus at 7:30 a.m. and return by 7 p.m. The cost will be $30 plus lunch.
The AARP 55 Alive Driver Safety Program is scheduled for April 14 and 15 in Winfield, and April 27 and 28 in Arkansas City. The Winfield sessions will be held at the Winfield Center at Baden Square, while the class in Arkansas City will be held in Room 115 of the Kerr Technology Building. Participants must attend both days to complete the course and receive a certificate. There is a $10 fee to cover class materials.
The second educational trip is scheduled for April 25 when the group will travel north, south, east, or west. That’s right, it’s a mystery trip. Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. The group will depart from Ireland Hall at 7:30 a.m. and return early in the evening. The cost is $40 and includes lunch.
The final trip of the spring is scheduled for May 5. The group will go to the Crown Uptown Dinner Theatre in Wichita. After a buffet lunch, the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical “The Sound of Music” will be performed. The group will depart from Ireland Hall at 10 a.m. and arrive back around 5 p.m. The cost is $35 and includes lunch and the show.
The spring picnic is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. May 10 in the Wright Room. Food, fun and fellowship is what the picnic is all about as participants in the Readers’ Theater class put on a short program. Cost of the luncheon is $7.50 per person.
