This year’s Orientation speaker is Nancy Hunter Denney, author of the book “Life by Design.”

Denney says that when people live their lives by design, or lead by design, the only outcome is one of meaning and an enhanced sense of purpose.

“I know from my own efforts to live everyone else’s definition of ‘having it all’ that there had to be a way of gaining back my life, and hopefully, re-discover happiness,” Denney said. “On the outside, I appeared capable, experienced and well educated. Inside, I was asking, ‘Why couldn’t I fit 38 hours into a 24-hour day?’ ‘Why wasn’t I productive at work or play?’ and ‘Is this all there is?’ “

She then discovered what she calls The Future Plan, a five-phase strategy for making life improvements. Denney’s life changed because she literally had a plan.

In 1993, after 12 years as a professional in higher education, she quit her job and started her own speaking business. Since then she has made a career out of inspiring others to make a difference. Her second book in which she co-authored, “Let Your Leadership Speak: How to Lead and Be Heard,” provides various tools for enhancing one’s leadership potential.

Denney is a nationally recognized keynote speaker and leadership trainer who has appeared on numerous radio and television morning shows, including ABC and NBC in Chicago discussing her life improvement strategies. She also appeared with Dr. Phil at the iWomen Conference in Indianapolis as the opening keynote.
