Cowley begins academic year with several new staff members


Cowley County Community College has made several changes in personnel for the upcoming 2004-2005 academic year, in faculty and staff positions. Following are positions that have been filled since May and as of Aug. 9. Personnel are listed in alphabetical order.

Stephen Brock Buckingham, Dorm Manager and Assistant Baseball Coach. Buckingham is a graduate of Cowley who served as a volunteer assistant coach to the Tiger baseball team during the 2003-2004 academic year. He earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He will manage the D. Robert Storbeck Dormitory on campus.

Jeff Carter, Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. Carter comes to Cowley after two seasons as assistant women's basketball coach at Barton County Community College. Prior to his stint in Great Bend, Carter was the head women's basketball coach at Friends University in Wichita, where he became the winningest women's basketball coach in school history. He holds a master's degree from Emporia State University and a bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas at Denton.

Todd Q. Clark, Head Women's Basketball Coach. Clark returns to Cowley as head of the women's basketball program. From 1997 to 2000, he served as assistant coach at Cowley under Darin Spence. Most recently, Clark served as the head women's basketball coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. And prior to that, he was the top assistant at NCAA Division I University of Texas-San Antonio. He holds a master's degree from Wichita State University and a bachelor's degree from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.

Linda Grossman, Natural Science instructor for northern campuses. Grossman previously was an adjunct instructor for Cowley’s northern campuses, teaching General Chemistry, Chemistry I and Chemistry II. She holds a master’s degree from Wichita State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Pamela Hann, Admissions Representative. Hann, a Cowley graduate from Sedan, holds a bachelor's degree from Washburn University. Most recently, she worked at Leedo Cabinetry in Moline as a builder services assistant.

Todd Kelley, Business and Service Technology Instructor. Kelley has served Cowley as an adjunct business and economics instructor since 1999. Since 2000, he served as owner/manager of BTK Rentals, a property management business, in Wichita. He holds master's and bachelor's degrees from Wichita State University.

Michelle Knoles, Service Learning Coordinator. Knoles holds a master’s degree from the University of Kansas and a bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University. Since August 2001, Knoles was a member of the adjunct faculty at Cowley. She also served as shelter director for Cowley County Safe Homes, Inc., for nearly 12 years.

Julie Kratt, English Instructor. Kratt previously worked at Cowley from 1992 to 1999, serving as a Learning Skills Lab assistant, where she taught all levels of English, and as a grant coordinator. Since August 1999, Kratt has taught English, grammar and literature to grades 7-12 at Ark City Christian Academy. She holds a master's degree in education from Southwestern College in Winfield and a bachelor's degree from Evangel College in Springfield, Mo.

Eddy McHargue Jr., Computer Technician. Since November 2002, McHargue worked part-time as a computer technician in Cowley's computer department.

Errol Lowery, Dorm Manager/Intramural Director. Lowery is no stranger to Cowley as he served as assistant women’s basketball coach during the 2003-2004 year. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Oakland City University in Oakland City, Ind. He will manage the Kirke Dale Dormitory.

Jamison D. Rhoads, Technical Director of Theatre. Rhoads holds a master’s degree from Temple University in Philadelphia and a bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University. Since 2002, he has served as assistant professor of lighting design and technical director at the University of New Orleans.

Mark A. Richardson, ADA/Special Needs Coordinator. Richardson holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Emporia State University. Most recently he served as principal at Irving Elementary School in Winfield. He also has been a member of the adjunct faculty at Southwestern College.

Kathy Witte, Library Assistant. Witte worked at Cowley from 1997 to 2002, serving as library assistant. Most recently, she was an accounting clerk at Corner Bank in Winfield. Witte holds a bachelor's degree from Southwestern College and is a graduate of Cowley.
