Students in Cowley College’s Upward Bound program culminated their six-week summer camp with a trip to Dallas, Texas, July 11-14.
Activities for the 28 students and seven program personnel included Six Flags Over Texas amusement park, a mystery dinner, a trip to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, and the Dallas World Aquarium. The group also had a formal dinner at the Reunion Tower at the Hyatt Regency hotel.
The trip is one of many activities participating students involved in the program get to enjoy for free. The students are from Arkansas City, Winfield, Dexter, Cedar Vale, Oxford, Wellington and Argonia.
During the summer camp, students lived in the Cowley dormitories and attended morning classes such as foreign language, math and leadership. During the afternoons, students were involved in activities such as canoeing, service projects or college tours.
Upward Bound is a federally-funded Trio grant program. It is a year-round program that helps high school students academically. It provides free tutoring to its students as well as twice-per-month Saturday academies, where students participate in anything from an ACT prep course to a day of swimming and bowling.
