Five Man Trio to kick off Caffé Acoustic season
The Five Man Trio, featuring three Cowley College instructors, is scheduled to kick off the 2005-2006 Caffé Acoustic season with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29.
The free concert will be held at Brown’s, 225 S. Summit St., Arkansas City. The public is invited to attend this performance of original acoustic music.
The Five Man Trio is comprised of Cowley College instructors Chris Mayer (Social Science), Dave Bostwick (Humanities) and Gary Gackstatter (Humanities). Mayer is a percussionist; Bostwick plays guitar, bass and harmonicas, while Gackstatter plays guitar, bass, flugelhorn, mandolin and trombone. The group has performed together for three years and recorded two CDs, “You Do The Math” and “Roam With the Buffalo.”
The group has performed at Riverfest, the Kansas State Fair, PrairieFest, and are regular performers at the Silverton ( Colo.) Jubilee, the Iron Horse in El Dorado, the Metropolitan in Hutchinson, and the Artichoke in Wichita.
The group’s music is written by Bostwick and Gackstatter and ranges from blues to Latin to rock and folk and everything in between. Mayer brings his vast knowledge of world percussion traditions to the group, giving it a unique sound.
“Musically speaking, the Five Man Trio won’t be painting themselves into any category corners,” said reviewer C. Nathan Coyle of Rambles, a cultural arts magazine. “They’re in the middle of the musical room, taking in a little bit of everything. The end result is a wonderful eclectic sound for all to enjoy.”
Caffé Acoustic concerts are underwritten by CornerBank, Home National Bank and Union State Bank.
