Hafner to sign autographs prior to Saturday's basketball games
Former Cowley College baseball great and current Cleveland Indians star, Travis Hafner, will be in the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame Room, located inside W.S. Scott Auditorium, to sign autographs beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Hafner will sign autographs leading up to the Lady Tigers’ basketball game vs. Neosho County beginning at 5 p.m. The Cowley men’s basketball team will play Neosho County at 7 p.m. Hafner will be one of five new inductees into the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame. The inductees will be recognized at halftime of the men’s game.
Hafner, who led Cowley to its first of back-to-back national championships in 1997, still holds the school-record for runs batted in in a season (82), runs batted in in a career (161), doubles in a season (21), and doubles in a career (36).
In four seasons with the Indians, Hafner has belted 117 home runs, and driven in 374 runs. This past season, Hafner batted .308 with a career-high 42 home runs and 117 runs batted in. This marked the third straight season Hafner surpassed the 100 RBI mark.
Despite missing the final month of the season with a broken right hand, Hafner finished first in the American League in slugging percentage (.659). He also finished second in on base percentage (.439), third in home runs (42), fourth in walks (100), and sixth in runs batted in (117).
