Cowley’s Cannon has article published in the Journal of EMS

Collaborating with Dr. Roy R. Danks, the Associate Medical Advisor for the Paramedic Program at Cowley College, MICT instructor Chris Cannon recently had an article on “Concussion and Second Impact Syndrome” published in the Journal of EMS.

The article details the pathophysiology and treatment of mild traumatic brain injuries in both the prehospital and in-hospital settings.

Cannon, who began working as an adjunct instructor at Cowley in 1998 and became a full-time MICT instructor in June, 2005,  has extensive prehospital care experience as both an EMT and a paramedic. In addition to being a Kansas certified instructor coordinator, he also holds instructor credentials in prehospital trauma life support and prehospital management of traumatic brain injuries.

“I was very honored when Dr. Danks asked me to co-author the article,” Cannon said. “I have had an interest in traumatic brain injuries for some time now, and anything that we can contribute to increase the information available to field paramedics is good.”

Dr. Danks is a general/trauma/burn surgeon and surgical intensivist at Kansas Surgical Consultants in Wichita. He has been actively involved in EMS education and was formerly a field paramedic.
