More than 100 people attend Cowley College’s Fine Arts Day
High School students from Kansas and Oklahoma had an opportunity to compete for scholarships and win cash prizes during Cowley College’s Fine Arts Day held March 5th in Arkansas City.
Through the course of Fine Arts Day, students auditioned for scholarships in theatre, vocal music, and instrumental music. Visual art students entered their artwork in the Prodigy Art Competition for scholarships, awards, and cash prizes. Creative writing students shared their portfolios in competition for the Creative Writing Prodigy Award.
Students also had the opportunity to see each of Cowley’s different art programs in action, as there were performances by the Cowley College Jazz Band, the Cowley College Singers, Creative Claws, Art Film Club, Dance, and Theatre. They also had a chance to meet with faculty, and talk with current students.
“Cowley showcased itself very well,” Cowley art instructor Mike Fell said. “The students seemed very positive and enthusiastic about the day.”
This was the third year Cowley has held the Fine Arts Day.
“I was really excited, I think it was one of the best we have put on,” Cowley admissions director Ben Schears said.
An awards ceremony capped the day. There were 34 Prodigy Award winners named and five winners in the Best of Show. The winners in the Best of Show category received $150 and a trophy.
