Cowley AEC team has solid showing at regional competition

Going head to head against five other Kansas Community College’s at the Academic Excellence Challenge West Regional held Saturday in Hutchinson, the Cowley AEC team finished in a tie for third.

The team picked up wins over Garden City Community College and Hutchinson. The team made up of Cowley students Aaron Gill, Brad Ingram, Richard Gould, and Elizabeth Smith, suffered a pair of close defeats against Dodge City (175-160) and round-robin champion Pratt (175-165).

“The team could have placed second if they had pulled out even one of the two close losses,” Cowley AEC mathematics instructor/AEC coach Greg Nichols said.

Gill was on top of his game at the regional as he averaged 40 points per match, good for fourth place individually.

Next up for the Cowley AEC team is the state semi-finals/finals in Colby on April 25-26.
