Annual lip-sync contest approaching at Cowley
Get ready for a night of entertainment.
Cowley College’s 18th annual Puttin’ on the Hits lip-sync contest will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 in the Robert Brown Theatre inside the Brown Center on the Arkansas City campus. Tickets are $2 and may be purchased at the door.
Director of Theatre Scott MacLaughlin has high expectations for this year’s contest.
“The community and students are excited about the event, you won’t want to miss this one,” MacLaughlin said.
The event, which began in the late 1980s, is one of the highlights of the fall semester at Cowley. Dejon Ewing, Humanities Department chair and emcee for the event, came up with the idea shortly after she arrived as a full-time instructor.
Participants will have three minutes to entice the crowd with their song and dance routines. Students compete for cash prizes, while the staff, faculty and administration compete for a traveling trophy.
Puttin’ on the Hits is a fundraiser for Act One Drama Club. The club raises money for activities and trip.
