Karen Mueller to perform at Caff Acoustic on Jan. 15
Well-known for her performances at Winfield’s Walnut Valley Festival,
Karen Mueller will be the featured performer at Cowley College’s
Caffé Acoustic held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at Brown’s in Arkansas
She is one of the top autoharp and mountain dulcimer players performing today. Her exciting and innovative style, featuring old-time, Celtic and contemporary music, has been applauded by critics and audiences across the US and in England. In 2006 she was inducted into the Autoharp Hall of Fame, twenty years after winning the International Autoharp Championship (1986), making her the youngest player recognized for either honor.
Mueller has recorded four critically acclaimed CDs, including her most recent, "Landscape of the Heart," which is a tribute to her Kansas roots. She is also the author of Mel Bay Publishing's Celtic Autoharp book, and her own Autoharp Gourmet book. In 2000, the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association awarded Karen its “Recognition of Excellence.”
The Winfield native has lived in Minneapolis, MN since 1989. She is in demand as a performer, studio musician, school residency artist and instructor. She gives private lessons in the Twin Cities to around 50 students of all ages and is the music specialist at a private school for kindergarten through junior high students. While touring extensively as a soloist, Mueller also performs and records with Katie McMahon, original lead singer of Riverdance.
A seasoned professional, Mueller is known for her warm interaction with the audience as well as her musical ability. She was introduced to the autoharp and dulcimer as a teenager at the Walnut Valley Festival, and taught herself to play both instruments. Bluegrass Unlimited magazine wrote that she is “a true virtuoso. Her talent and clarity of musical vision deserve a wide audience.” Her website is at www.karenmueller.com.
