Large crowd comes out to support Writer's Corner
Students in Cowley College’s Creative Claws club hosted its Writers’ Corner
(formerly known as Open Mic Night) at Brown’s on Thursday, and
it was a huge success.
“We had more students who presented, more works read, and a larger audience than ever before,” said sponsor Marlys Cervantes. “It was a wonderful night full of fun, seriousness, and much creativity.”
There were 17 presenters and 41 works read. An appreciative audience of almost 70 people packed Brown’s and enjoyed the evening. Cervantes and club president Joanna Carson expressed their thanks to Kim Ebert of Brown’s for her ongoing support of this event.
An upcoming event that the club will host is its second Comedy Competition, which will be Thursday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the Brown Center Room 203. Admission is $2, or $1 with a donated non-perishable food item.
“This is an opportunity for our comedic writers to perform for prizes,” Carson explains. “It’s a fun night, full of laughs, and we expect great entertainment.”
Students interested in competing can pick up entry forms from Cervantes, Carson, or in the Humanities Department.
The club will also host a portfolio reception for the creative writing classes from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Earle N. Wright Community Room on May 7, directly preceding the Temporal Mechanics Union concert that evening. People can come view the portfolios the writers have produced this semester.
“It’ll be a great evening,” Cervantes said. “We’ll start in the Wright Room and then be led from there to the concert by TMU. You can’t beat that much entertainment and creativity in one evening!”
