Cowley College recently decided to reinstate the Graphic Design program after a two-year hiatus.
“There was a high student interest in the program as well as faculty desire to bring it back,” Griffiths said. “It meets the students’ needs and rounds off our art program.”
The Graphic Design program focuses on the basics of good design through the Iterative design process: problem definition, analysis, idea exploration, idea development, focus, refinement, and production. As the field of Graphic Design covers everything from traditional print design to web to motion, the Cowley program focuses on a solid grounding in the principles of good design. From this firm foundation, the student can expand to any of the many visual communication careers.
The outlook for the field of graphic design is bright with the increasing demand for graphics, particularly those used online.
The program will begin in the fall. Cowley is currently in the process of hiring a teacher for the program. The course instructor will redesign the curriculum as well as handle the teaching and recruiting duties.
