Sheets hired to head Cowley College's Graphic Design program
With Cowley College recently reinstating its Graphic Design program,
the school has announced the hiring of Sunni Sheets as full-time Graphic
Sheets received a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts-Graphic Design from the University of Kansas, and earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration through Southwestern College. She began her collegiate career by taking classes at Cowley College.
Sheets spent more than seven years working as a graphic designer at Southwestern College and has 10 years professional experience as a freelance designer. While at Southwestern, she taught some graphic design and creativity courses.
Sheets, who has received several honors and awards for her work on brochures and publications, will redesign the curriculum as well as handle the teaching and recruiting duties for the Graphic Design program at Cowley College.
Slade Griffiths, vice president of academic affairs at Cowley College, is looking forward to having Sheets in charge of the Graphic Design program.
“Sunni has been a graphic artist for many years and was highly recommended by everyone we spoke to,” Griffiths said. “She will be a welcome addition to our faculty.”
The Graphic Design program focuses on the basics of good design through the Iterative design process: problem definition, analysis, idea exploration, idea development, focus, refinement, and production. As the field of Graphic Design covers everything from traditional print design to web to motion, the Cowley program focuses on a solid grounding in the principles of good design. From this firm foundation, the student can expand to any of the many visual communication careers.
The outlook for the field of graphic design is bright with the increasing demand for graphics, particularly those used online.
Students may seek an Associate of Applied Science degree with an emphasis in print or web design, or may seek an Associate of Arts in Graphic Design with the intent to transfer to a four-year institution. The program will begin in the fall. To enroll for the graphic design program or other courses offered at Cowley College, contact 620-441-5594.
