Phi Theta Kappa holds induction ceremony
Fifty students recently joined the Alpha Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Phi
Theta Kappa at Cowley College. Twenty-three new members attended the
induction ceremony on Sunday in the Earle N. Wright Community Room
of the Brown Center.
Ark City advisor, Melinda Neal, welcomed approximately 70 inductees, family and friends and gave some background about the International Honor Society of two-year colleges.
State representative Ed Trimmer of the 78th District, spoke to the group encouraging them to become involved in their communities for the sake of serving others, not for personal gain.
Phi Theta Kappa officers from the Arkansas City and Mulvane campuses, Emily Crain, Lauren McGuigan, Keoki Waipa, Colleen Detar and Crystal McGuire, conducted the induction ceremony.
New members were presented with congratulatory scrolls and the festivities concluded with a cake and punch reception.
The enrollment period for Phi Theta Kappa is still open and eligible students have until Oct. 30 to return their application and fees to the Natural Science Office. For more information, contact Melinda Neal in Ark City at 620-441-5562 or Nancy Ayers in Mulvane at 316-777-3052.
