Local group wins Cowley's Battle of the Bands
Unheard Apology, a local melodic hard-core group, came away as the top
band during the Battle of the Bands held Friday in Cowley College’s
Robert Brown Theatre.
Four of the five members of Unheard Apology have attended Cowley College. By winning the Battle of the Bands, Unheard Apology was awarded 16 hours of recording time in Uptown Studios. The group plans on spending the next few months writing its new album, which they hope to have released early next year.
“I really didn’t know if we would win or not because we are a little heavier than most bands,” said bassist Kris Ripley. “There were a lot of talented and unique bands. It was a fun night.”
The event raised more than $300 to help the Cowley College student ambassador’s with their trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Polar Opposite Bear, a band out of Wichita, finished second and was awarded eight hours of recording time from Uptown Studios.
Shayla McDonald, Cowley College director of admissions, thought the evening went well.
“It was a good time, people got to hear a lot of different music,” McDonald said.
Judges for the evening were, Shayla McDonald, Neal Rosenquist (from Uptown Studios), and Bill Kropec (Willoughby Music).
Unheard Apology band members are, Kris Ripley, Chris Edwards, Josh Sprague, Justin (Tuna) Hiltzman, and Brandon Buckner.
