Winter Wonderland Festival of Dance to be held Friday
Led by Cowley College dance instructor Jennifer Blatchford, students
in Cowley College’s dance classes will put their talents on display
during the Winter Wonderland Festival of Dance Friday at 7 p.m. in the
Robert Brown Theatre. The cost to attend is $2.
More than 200 participants will take part in the performance as the evening will also have special performances by the Tigerette Danceline, Ark City Dance and Cindy’s School of Dance.
“It’s going to be the experience of a lifetime,” Blatchford said. “I hope to make it a tradition here at Cowley.”
With dance classes just recently being offered at the college, Blatchford organized the event to showcase everything the college has to offer in terms of dance.
“I wanted to bring in the community so they could see what we have here at Cowley,” Blatchford said. “We hope to have performances in the future done entirely by the Cowley College Dance Department.”
Blatchford, who also serves as a choreographer at Ark City Dance, has enjoyed working with the individuals from Cindy’s School of Dance.
“It has been great to talk and work with Cindy (Bennett), she is excited to have her kids perform on stage,” Blatchford said.
Blatchford’s mother, Terri Schroeder, who is the Director of Studio at Ark City Dance, is also helping put together the performance. Participants in the show range from three years old through college age.
There will be several genres of dancing on display such as jazz, kick line, and lyrical dance. The Cowley Concert Choir will perform near the end of the show and will be accompanied by director of piano and music theory, Steve Butler.
“I think this will provide a special touch that everyone will be surprised with,” Blatchford said. “Hopefully, it will put everyone in the Christmas spirit.”
