Cowley awards scholarships to students from 14 different schools

 

The Student Services Department at Cowley College has awarded scholarships to the following students.

  • From Arkansas City High School:
    • Geoffrey Lillingston, son of Trevor and Amy Lillingston, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in football, track, and the Kennel Krazy Club. He is undecided on a major.
    • Kalina Harris, daughter of Thomas Barber and Leigh Ann Brown, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, she was involved in choir, Student Council, GSA, SADD, AC Players, as well as freshmen basketball and track. She was a member of the Honor Roll and plans to major in pre-pharmacy.
    • Michael Edward James Smith, son of Melvin and Dotty Smith, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. Smith lettered in academics during the 2008-2009 school year. He plans to major in structural engineering.
    • Joel Roan, son of Tereso and Irene Roan, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in football, basketball, baseball, and FFA. He plans to major in non destructive testing.
    • Meagan Jarboe, daughter of Sherry Mort, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, she was involved in FCA, SADD, Student Council, band, yearbook, basketball, and softball. She plans to major in psychology.
    • Scott Gibson, son of Clark and Lynette Gibson, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in soccer and FCA. He also earned an academic letter and work ethic’s certificate during his junior year. He is undecided on a major.
    • Harlee Musselman, daughter of Cindy Musselman and Tony Stephens, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At ACHS, she was involved in volleyball, FFA, Usherettes, and the National Honor Society. She also was named a KU Honors Scholar. She plans to major in accounting.
    • J. Daric Mann, son of Darin and Darla Mann, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in football, choir, FCA, FFA, and the AC Players. He was a member of the Honor Roll and plans to major in criminal justice.
    • Kayla Magnus, daughter of David and Karol Magnus, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, she was a member of FCCLA and the Chamber Choir. She was also named to the Dean’s Honor Roll and was presented the Citizenship Award. She is undecided on a major.
    • Steve Ford, son of Tim and Kim Ford, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in junior varsity golf. He plans to major in construction management.
    • Curtis Cook, son of Mike and Christy Cook, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. He is undecided on a major.
    • Nayeli Munoz, daughter of Greg and Adriana Killen, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, she was involved with AFS (American Field Service) and the Harvest of Hope Leadership Academy. She plans to major in nursing.
    • Eric Bump, son of David and Randi Bump, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in football, band, Tech Club, Science Club, and the youth group. He received honorable mention recognition at the manufacturing and machining state contest, and was named runner-up for Corps Cadet of the Year. He plans to major in manufacturing engineering.
    • Andrea Sweetwood, daughter of Scott and Renee Sweetwood, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At ACHS, she participated in cross country, track, Student Council, basketball, FCA, AC Players, choir, Usherettes, Scholars Bowl, and her youth group. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Kansas Honor Scholar. She also received the Soroptimist Award and plans to major in pre-physical therapy.
    • Ethan Ellis, son of Donny and Sharon Ellis, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At ACHS, he was a member of the golf team, French Club, and National Honor Society. He also made the Dean’s Honor Roll, was named a Kansas Honor Scholar, and received the Distinguished Scholastic Achievement Award. He plans to major in engineering.
    • Brittany Gibbs, daughter of Kenton and Jill Gibbs, is the recipient of a TNT Scholarship. At ACHS, she participated in volleyball, FCA, and SADD. She plans to major in nursing.
    • Jade Sparks, daughter of Justin and Emily Sparks, is the recipient of a Theatre Scholarship. At ACHS, she was a member of the Purple Paws Danceline, the Ark City Dance Competition Troupe, KAYS, FBLA< SADD, and the National Honor Society. She was named a Kansas Honor Scholar and Who’s Who Among American High School Students. She plans to major in theatre/dance.
  • From Winfield High School:
    • Taylor Snider, son of Rick and Lori Snider, is the recipient of a Business/Computer and Information Technology Department Scholarship. At Winfield, he was involved in band, marching band, symphonic band, jazz band, Southwestern College Concert Band, golf, and his church’s youth group. He was a Kansas Honor Scholar and made the Principal’s Honor Roll each year. He plans to major in business administration/golf course management.
  • From Mulvane High School:
    • Samantha Demain, daughter of Linda and Daryl Demain (deceased), is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Mulvane, she participated in band, jazz band, pep band, KAY, Thespians, Student Council, and IMPACT. She plans to major in musical therapy.
    • Amanda Hood, daughter of Cheryl Hood, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Mulvane, she was a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to major in psychology.
    • Justin Griffin, son of Thomas and Verlene Griffin, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Mulvane, he was involved in soccer and band. He is undecided on a major.
    • Caitlin Wayman, daughter of Gordon and Samantha Wayman, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Mulvane, she participated in volleyball, softball, FCCLA, Bigs in Schools, KAY, IMPACT, CYO, and Quill Type. She plans to major in pre-veterinary medicine.
    • Megan Evans, daughter of Don and Susan Evans, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Mulvane, she took part in FCCLA, Women’s Chorus, and mixed choir. She plans to major in elementary education.
  • From Belle Plaine High School:
    • Kathryn Newell, daughter of Larry and Lora Newell, is the recipient of a Danceline Scholarship. At Belle Plaine, she was involved in dance, SADD, FCCLA, and the Student Council. She plans to major in cosmetology.
  • From Dexter High School:
    • Beth Pudden, daughter of Bill and Tami Pudden, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Dexter, she was involved in band, BIGS, Flags, FCA, 4-H, volleyball, basketball, softball, dance, Student Council, and the school play. She plans to major in elementary education.
  • From Udall High School:
    • Megen Brill, daughter of Scott and Laurie Brill, is the recipient of a Pageant Scholarship. At Udall, she took part in FCCLA, SADD, FFA, FBLA, cheerleading, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She served as president of FCCLA and was named most school spirited for the Class of 2010. She plans to major in accounting.
  • From Wichita South High School:
    • Andrew Jackson, son of Douglas and Rosanne Jackson, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Wichita South, he was a member of the National Honor Society and the OWLS/Technology Student Association. He was ranked the top student in his sophomore and junior class and was named a member of the Honor Roll. He plans to major in mechanical engineering.
  • From Towne West ERC:
    • Rebecca Classen, daughter of Jenifer Classen, is the recipient of a Cowley Partnership Scholarship. At Towne West ERC, she was a member of the National Honor society and International Thespian Society. She is undecided on a major.
  • From Derby High School:
    • Sheyne Pickard, daughter of Jeff and Heather Pickard, is the recipient of a ACT Scholarship. At Derby, she was involved in the Drama Club and Student Council. She was twice named the Student of the Week and Student of the Month. She plans to major in pre-pharmacy.
  • From Andale High School:
    • Jennifer Marson, daughter of George and Florence Marson, is the recipient of a Social Science Department Scholarship. At Andale, she was involved in SADD, the Art Club, and the fall play. She was a member of the Principal’s Honor Roll and High Honor Roll. She plans to major in secondary education.
    • Shelby Kriesche, daughter of Denise Kriesche, is the recipient of a Danceline Scholarship. At Andale, she was a member of the dance team, SADD, the Foreign Language Club, publications, Art Club, and was the track manager for one year. She also served as dance team captain for two years and is undecided on a major.
  • From Guthrie (OK) High School:
    • Jessica Evans, daughter of Jim and Chris Evans and Teresa and Todd Swartzbaugh, is the recipient of a Danceline Scholarship. At Guthrie, she was involved in cheerleading, dance, and the Honor Society. She is undecided on a major.
  • From Vian (OK) High School:
    • Angelena Douglas, daughter of Byron Douglas and Greg and Gina Cox, is the recipient of a Hall of Scholar’s Scholarship. At Vian, she participated in basketball, cheerleading, band, Learn and Serve, Spanish Club, and FCCLA. She was a member of the Principal’s Honor Roll, the National Honor Society, and was the state champion in HOSA. She plans to major in nursing.
  • From W. Charles Akins High School:
    • Somsavanh Phouthavong, son of Khoroth Phouthavong and Laura Goodwin, is the recipient of a Robert Brown Memorial Scholarship. At W. Charles Akins, he was involved in wrestling and graduated in the top 10 percent of his class. He is undecided on a major.
  • From Bern High School:
    • Sabrina Myers, daughter of Rob and Cindy Myers, is the recipient of a Danceline Scholarship. At Bern, she participated in volleyball, basketball, track, school plays, FCCLA, and cheerleading. She is undecided on a major.
