CC Singers to perform at conference in Tulsa

CC SingersThe CC Singers will be the featured entertainment at the South Central POISE Users’ Group’s 29th Annual Conference on Tuesday, April 13 at the Doubletree Warren Place in Tulsa, OK.

The theme of this year’s conference, which runs April 11-14, is “The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades”.

Charles McKown, Cowley College vice president of research and technology, has served on the South Central POISE Users’ Group’s Board of Directors for more than 15 years and has served as Board President three times. McKown, who currently serves as Board Treasurer, was in attendance when the CC Singers last performed at the conference six years ago.

“I still get compliments about their performance to this day,” McKown said. “The Board said they would like to have the CC Singers perform again if possible.”

The CC Singers will perform a medley of Disney songs during the banquet, featuring contemporary Disney, to older, more traditional Disney tunes.

“It is a show that will appeal to everyone,” vocal music director Connie Donatelli said. “I am excited for us to be involved and get to represent Cowley again.”

McKown will once again serve as a presenter at the conference, which will also be attended by Cowley registrar Mark Britton, director of institutional research Kelly Johnson, and director of computer services Clinton Marlow.

The attendees at the conference use the Jenzabar PX administrative software system and are made up of colleges all over the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada, but primarily from Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas. Cowley College has used the software since 1991.

Following the CC Singers performance at the banquet, the group will perform at the Good Sam Campers Club held at the Winfield Fairgrounds on April 17. They will then prepare for its Spring Concert along with the Cowley Jazz Band on April 27 at 7 p.m. The Spring Concert will be held in the Robert Brown Theatre.

The CC Singers will then set out on its annual spring tour, which will take place April 29-May 1. The CC Singers will perform in Salina on April 29, with high school students from Salina Central, Salina South, and Salina Sacred Heart in attendance.

The group will then perform at Rock Creek High School in Westmoreland, before heading out for a tour of Kansas State University’s Theatre Department, which will include a theatre production.

The tour will conclude with the group having an opportunity to see the touring production of Legally Blonde in Omaha, NE.

“Performing at the banquet in Tulsa will be a wonderful experience for us as we get ready for other performances in April,” Donatelli said.

Cowley College theatre director Scott MacLaughlin, as well as dance instructor Jennifer Blatchford, will join Donatelli and the CC Singers on the Spring Tour.

Donatelli praised the choreography work Blatchford has done with the CC Singers.

“It is making the Disney show sparkle and come to life,” Donatelli said.

Donatelli has thoroughly enjoyed working with this year’s CC Singers.

“They bring intensity and passion to what they are doing and have a good time with it,” Donatelli said.
