Cowley College Jumpstart Students give back to the community
The Cowley College Jumpstart program is well underway this summer with 52 students enrolled. This program is designed specifically for recently graduated seniors to come and experience “college life” prior to their fall semester.
In this one month program, students are enrolled in a full-time summer schedule, live in the dorms, eat in the cafeteria, and participate in group activities and service projects.
Jumpstart students have worked at Habitat for Humanity, the Burford Theatre project, Prairie Fest, the City of Arkansas City, the Cherokee Strip Land Rush Museum, Medicalodges, Chaplin Nature Center, Cumbernauld Village, the Humane Society, and the Arkansas City Senior Center.
In addition to the service projects, some of the Jumpstart students recently participated in the Prairie Fest 5K and 1 mile fun run and will also be participating in the Relay for Life event on June 18-19.
The program attracts most of its students from Oklahoma and Kansas but also has participants from as far away as California and Virginia.
