Cowley College Relay For Life team raises over $3,700
Numerous Cowley College employees took part in the annual Cowley County Relay For Life, benefiting the American Cancer Society, Friday at the Agri-Business Building in Arkansas City.
Cowley College’s relay team raised more than $3,700, while the event raised just over $70,000.
Counting student involvement, employees, and members of Cowley’s Golden Tigers, more than 50 individuals affiliated with the college helped with the event. The top fundraiser was Marvis Gaddie, Business, Computer, and Information Technology Department secretary, who raised over $1,000.
The Alpha Gamma Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Cowley College also participated in the event and raised more than $1,500. The team, Promoters of Truth and Knowledge, organized and was in charge of children's activities which took place in the recreation building. Games, which followed the birthday theme of the relay, included ring toss, face painting, bowling, basketball, jewelry making, coloring, cupcake decorating and breaking open a piñata full of candy. Kids and family members also enjoyed free popcorn and sno-cones.
Funds raised at the annual event go to the American Cancer Society for cancer research and programs for those being treated for cancer.
“We raised a good amount of money, and we hope the relay will keep getting bigger and better,” said Relay For Life co-chair Jody Arnett.
