Cowley teaming up to provide Lead Safe Work Practices training

 

Teaming with the Kansas Safety Training Center, Inc. to provide Lead Safe Work Practices in Kansas, Cowley College is preparing to hold a pair of training sessions.

Training will be provided at the Arkansas City campus, Webb Brown Building on Thursday, July 29.

Training will also be provided at the Mulvane Center, Bloomenshine Building on Tuesday, August 17.

The training will be conducted by Rex Smith, Certified Risk Assessor and Authorized Outreach Trainer. Training will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at a cost of $150. For more information or to enroll, call 620-441-5303 or 620-441-5267.

The Environmental Protection Agency issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe practices and other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning. Under the rule, beginning April 22, 2010, contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.
