Cowley art instructor, student to take part in reception at Artist Alley Gallery
Cowley College art instructor, Mike Fell, and student Landon
Schmidt will be among the guest artists at a reception held Saturday
at the Artist Alley Gallery in Winfield from 1-3 p.m.
Landon Schmidt, a sophomore art major at Cowley College, is the featured student artist of the month at the Artist Alley Gallery. Schmidt is exhibiting drawings and paintings for the month of September.
Last month Hilary Schafer, a freshman art student at Cowley was the featured artist. Aaron Palsmeier, another Cowley student, was the first featured artist.
Fell will be doing a Raku pottery event on Saturday between 9 a.m and 3 p.m. as part of the kick-off for the Walnut Valley Festival, where people can purchase a hand thrown pot, glaze it as they choose and have it Raku fired on the spot. Fell also has ceramic and stone sculptures on display and for sale at the Gallery.
Judy Groves, a former Cowley instructor, also has a selection of her paintings at the Gallery, which features the work of local artists.
The Artist Alley Gallery, located at 114 E. Eighth, will have extended hours for the events kicking off the Walnut Valley Festival.
Gallery hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. At 1 p.m. there will be a reception with Kris Bohanan jewelry, while a concert with the Mando Mamas will begin at 2 p.m.
On Monday, Sept. 14 the Gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cindy Altman will offer a pumpkin painting demo at 10 a.m. Holly Savage will demo 20 minute portraits at 1 p.m. (portraits available for purchase). At 4:30 p.m. Ken Kraus will be on hand for chair massages. A benefit hot dog and lemonade feed will be held at 5 p.m. for CASA in conjunction with a concert featuring Ray German, Dennis and Gay Young, and Bruce Wells on bones, bass and hammer dulcimer.
On Tuesday, Sept. 15 hours for the Gallery are 4 to 8 p.m. At 4 pm. Dave Chapman will be carving roosters in the chicken coop plus over art demos including Lynn Felts’ paintings. Free Peach Almond Tea and popcorn will be served. Wichita Sam, producer of Cigar Box Guitars, will be in concert at 5 p.m., followed by Julie Sutton and Bill Cropek on guitar and Djembe Drum at 6:30.
On Wednesday, Sept. 16 the Gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. All musicians are invited to hangout and jam at the Alley. Linda Hahn will demo loom weaving at 10:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. Dorothy Fisher will highlight her oil painting technique. Clayton Crawford and Tom Hoeffgen will perform a concert at 5 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 17 Gallery hours are 4 to 7 p.m. featuring a pastel demo by Martha Fitzwater.
On Saturday, Sept. 19 the Gallery will be open from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Pumpkin painting with Cindy Altman will be available from 10 a.m. until noon.
