Concert Choir and CC Singers shine at Fall Vocal Concert

 

Fall Vocal ConcertPutting its many talented voices on display, the Cowley College Concert Choir and CC Singers entertained a large crowd at its Fall Vocal Concert, “Music For All Seasons”, held Tuesday in the Robert Brown Theatre.

The Concert Choir performed Seven Bridges Road (recorded by the Eagles); Hold On! (Written by Native American composer/guitarist, Phillip White Hawk and arranged by Jackson Berkey, keyboard player for Manheim Steamroller); Water Night (music by Eric Whitacre and text by the Spanish Poet, Octavio Paz); Twa Tanbou (sung completely in the “Haitian” language and is about the importance of teamwork and this philosophy is applied to three drums; and Up To The Mountain, a gospel folk song written by singer/songwriter Patty Griffin and is based on the famous “I’ve Been to the Mountain Top” speech given by Martin Luther King in 1968 the day before he was assassinated in Memphis. Sophomore Nicole Hoerschgen served as the soloist for Up to the Mountain.

After the Choir’s breathtaking performance, the CC Singers wowed the crowd by performing “The Magical Music of Disney” (A medley of Disney movie songs) with choreography by Jennifer Blatchford.

The CC Singers performed songs from “Hercules”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “The Little Mermaid”, “The Lion King”, “Toy Story”, “Cars”, Monsters, Inc.”, and “Tarzan”.

The Concert Choir and CC Singers performed under the direction of Cowley College director of vocal music, Connie Donatelli. Dr. Gloria Tham served as the Concert Choir accompanist, and played the piano during parts of the CC Singers’ performance. Paul Peterson played percussion, while instrumental music instructor, Josh Fleig, served as an accompanist on bass guitar.

Fleig will be leading the Jazz Band Concert, which will be held Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. inside the Robert Brown Theatre. A guitar ensemble will also be performing. The Concert Band Fall Concert will take place Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
