Concert Band conducts fall performance
One week after the performance of the Cowley College Jazz Band, instrumental
music instructor, Josh Fleig, had the Cowley College Concert Band take
the stage Thursday night in the Robert Brown Theatre for its fall concert
The Concert Band performed six pieces of work and exited the stage to a warm reception from the audience.
“I am real pleased with where we are right now, they have made strides,” Fleig said. “It’s always well worth the effort. I was really pleased to see the turnout.”
The Concert Band performed “Exhilaration”, “Academic Festival Overture”, “Songs of Old Kentucky”, “Afton Variations”, “Apollo: Myth and Legend”, and “Espana Cani”.
Brittany Engle and Meagan Jackson served as soloists on flute, Rebecca Clark and Shawn Coleman were soloists on clarinet, Daniel Byers provided a solo on alto saxophone, and Robert Hutson was the soloist on tenor saxophone.
Following a 10-minute intermission, the Guitar Ensemble took the stage for an encore performance of their program from last week’s Jazz Band Concert. The Guitar Ensemble performed “Bill’s Bay”, “Stylin”, “The Unicorn Awakes”, and “We’ve Got Rhythm”.
Members of the Guitar Ensemble are, Daniel Byers, Matt Smith, Caleb Johnston, Michael Bowling, Zach Johnson, and Clayton Lupfer. Fleig accompanied the Guitar Ensemble and was pleased with group’s performance.
“They sounded more confident tonight after their initial performance,” Fleig said.
Fleig will continue working with the Concert Band and Guitar Ensemble and plans to expand the styles of music the Concert Band will perform in its future programs.
“I am excited about where these groups are going to go,” Fleig said.
