Williams year just keeps getting better
What a year it has been for Cowley College sophomore Jordan Williams. After being crowned the school’s Queen Alalah in the fall and having recently been one of five candidates for the school’s Homecoming Queen, Williams was named Cowley College’s February Student of the Month.
Williams, a dental hygiene major, is the daughter of Kevin and Terri Williams. She has three sisters, LeAnna Winter 29, Kylee Viola 27, and Katie Williams 24. Grandparents are Linda DeMart of Arkansas City, and Harold Jenkins (deceased) of South Carolina. Also, Roy (deceased) and Glennie Williams of Arkansas City.
She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 2009. At ACHS, she was class president all four years, served as the president of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), was in FCA, and was a Soroptimist Girl.
At Cowley, Williams is the Vice President of Fellowship for Phi Theta Kappa, and is a Cowley Ambassador. She is also a member of the Cowley Tiger Spirit Squad, was invited to be a member in Mu Alpha Theta, and was named to the list of Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. Along with her campus involvement, Williams has also been a leader in the classroom maintaining a 3.59 grade point average.
Many members of the faculty and staff have noticed Williams’ accomplishments at Cowley. Charlee Wilson, Coordinator of Career and Tutoring Services, is one person on campus who has noticed all the things Williams is involved in, and has enjoyed serving as her advisor for the past two years.
“She is very engaged in her education here at Cowley, and is driven by her goals for the future,” Wilson said. “Jordan is a model student and a great person. She is well respected by her fellow students on campus, as well as the faculty and staff at Cowley. I believe Jordan is very deserving of being named Student of the Month at Cowley.”
Williams, who would like to become a dental hygienist and a part-time photographer, credits Wilson along with her sister, Kylee, with helping her decide what she would like to do in life. She also looks up to Natural Science instructor/PTK advisor, Melinda Neal.
“I have really enjoyed the Cowley experience and everything the school has to offer,” Williams said.
Outside of Cowley, Williams has been employed at the Sirloin Stockade in Arkansas City for nearly four years.
After Cowley, Williams plans to transfer to Wichita State University and has applied for admission into the Dental Hygiene program for Fall 2011.
However, as for now, she will continue what has been an amazing sophomore year at Cowley.
“It’s been awesome,” Williams said. “Being named Student of the Month is really exciting and quite an honor.”
