Union State Bank pledges $50,000 towards Cowley Colleges capital campaign

capital campaign pledgeRecognizing the Travis Hafner Training Center as a significant addition to Cowley College and the Arkansas City community, Union State Bank recently pledged $50,000 to help the school with its capital campaign to raise contributions for the construction of the building.

“Union State Bank is a long standing supporter of Cowley College and we can always count on them to help us in our capital ventures,” Cowley College president Dr. Patrick J. McAtee said. “We sincerely appreciate them supporting us in this way.”

With its contribution, Union State Bank will have the naming rights to the world class weight facility located inside the Training Center. Bill Docking, CEO and Board Chairman of Union State Bank, is proud to partner with the college in this venture.

“Cowley College contributes enormously to our quality of life and is an engine in our economy,” Docking said. “USB is committed to partnering with Cowley College and thus is delighted to support the fundraising campaign.”

Along with the weight facility, the Travis Hafner Training Center will feature a multi-purpose area, batting cages, coach’s offices, athletic training room, a pair of conference rooms, as well as locker rooms and restrooms.  The facility will be utilized by all 15 of Cowley’s athletic teams and will benefit the school in recruiting in-state and out of state student athletes. Over the years, the Tiger athletic program has combined to win six national championships, 139 conference titles, and 77 region titles. They have also had three national runner-up finishes.

“Cowley College’s success is essential to our area,” Docking said. “The training and education they provide opens the door of opportunity to students.”

The gift from Union State Bank helps to kick off the room naming phase of the capital campaign.

“We’re truly humbled and honored to receive a gift this generous for the project.” said Ben Schears, vice president for institutional advancement at Cowley College.  “Due to the level of commitment Union State Bank was willing to make to the campaign, we were able to enter into our next phase by providing naming rights to rooms in the building.”

To make this project a success and provide championship facilities for the Tiger athletic program, individuals and businesses can make gifts and pledges of $500 or more in full or divided up over a three-year period. All gifts of $500 or more will be acknowledged on a permanent recognition plaque inside the facility.  Room naming opportunities, pictures of construction, and fundraising progress are available and can be viewed online at www.cowley.edu/alumni  Those interested in naming a room or giving to the project can contact Ben Schears at 620.441.5245 or Shannon Massey at 620.441.5319.
