Students take part in Theatre Camp
Preparing to attend Cowley College in the fall on a theatre scholarship, 26 students took part in the school’s Theatre Camp held Wednesday and Thursday.
The two-day camp consisted of team building exercises, games, challenges and initiatives.
“We wanted to get them together as a group and show them how the program works and what will be expected of them,” Cowley College director of theatre and theatrical services Scott MacLaughlin said.
Along with the team building exercises and workshop activities, the group also had an opportunity to attend Music Theatre of Wichita’s production of “Sunset Boulevard” on Wednesday night.
During the camp, MacLaughlin informed the students that this year’s fall play will be “Our Town” by American playwright Thornton Wilder. The play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1938 and has been adapted numerous times.
The group was also told this year’s spring musical will be “The Drowsy Chaperone”, with book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. The show, which debuted in 1998 and opened on Broadway in 2006, won the Tony Award for Best Book and Best Score.
MacLaughlin is looking forward to working with this group of students in the upcoming school year.
“I am excited about this whole group, they took to the challenges and initiatives really well,” MacLaughlin said.
