Cowley students attend piano workshop presented by well-known composer
Cowley College piano instructor, Dr. Gloria Tham, and six of her students attended a piano workshop on Friday at Senseney Music in Wichita.
The workshop “Ages and Stages of Motivation” was presented by well-known composer and teacher Dr. Randall Faber. The workshop was based on Dr. Faber’s research and was recently presented internationally. The workshop was attended by piano teachers from the greater Wichita area, with Cowley College bringing the largest number of students.
During the workshop, Dr. Faber presented his learning models based on his research. Those in attendance learned pedagogical techniques and the motivation for learning in different age groups. The workshop also included teaching demonstrations and discussion of appropriate literature for different student levels. At the end of the workshop, participants were treated to a performance of Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz.
“My piano students are very fortunate to have been able to attend a workshop conducted by a nationally known clinician for free,” Dr. Tham said. “Dr. Randall is not only a fabulous composer, but an amazing teacher and pianist himself. I hope they are very motivated to try out some of the pedagogical techniques in their own piano teaching. To say the least, we were all very inspired by this workshop.”
Cowley students that attended the piano workshop with Dr. Tham were, Debbie Badley, Jessica Coldwell, Anne Bloyer, Valerie Monteith, Hannah Dillard, and Melisa Coberley.
