Clothing exchange event helps numerous community members
The Arkansas City community and Cowley College students, family and friends
came through once again for a successful clothing exchange event on
Saturday, October 16th in the Wright Room of the Cowley College Brown
Education Majors and ACES (Academic Civic Engagement through Service) students collected over 5,000 clothing items over the course of six weeks. The items were sorted by size and gender then organized on tables for distribution. Community members were invited to take any needed items, no questions asked. Collected were 120 coats, which were taken within the first fifteen minutes of opening the doors. More than 525 pairs of shoes were distributed within the first two hours. Only a few items remained after the event; those items were boxed and will be delivered to other non-profit organizations in the area this week.
“Thank you to all who contributed items or volunteered time to this much needed event,” Julie Rhoads, ACES coordinator/director of education and service learning said.
