Early Childhood Education program at Cowley undergoing name change
What was known as the Early Childhood Education program at Cowley College
will now be known as the Child Care and Development program after recent
approval from the school’s academic affairs council.
The child care and development program at Cowley College consists of an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Child Care & Development (Early Childhood Education). This degree is recommended for those who prefer to work with children from birth through age eight in a child care and development setting, such as in-home child care or a child care facility. The AAS degree is also recommended for those who are seeking an upper level position within child care such as director of a center.
Along with the name change, three new classes have been proposed to add to the program. The classes are Portfolio, Parent-Teacher Collaborations, and Nutrition-Health and Safety.
Cowley College is updating all course procedures to be aligned with the KSDE (Kansas State Department of Education), KDHE (Kansas Department of Health and Environment), Child Care Aware, Core Competencies for Early Care and Education Professionals in Kansas and Missouri, and the Kansas Commerce. The school is working on new and improved degrees to benefit workforce development.
