Cowley College to offer American Sign Language Course
Cowley College will be offering an American Sign Language course in the spring semester on Monday evenings, beginning January 24 between 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. in the Webb Brown Academic Center in Arkansas City.
The class will focus on the use of beginning signing naturally in a wide variety of situations in the Deaf Community. Development of topics, vocabulary, and grammatical structures of American Sign Language will lead to beginning conversational skills. Introduction, sign production, extended comprehension, interaction, breakaway, and linguistics will be featured.
Topics will include introducing oneself, exchanging personal information, talking about surroundings, telling where you live, talking about your family and occupation, and telling about activities.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate basic American Sign Language receptive and expressive skills, interact comfortably, and show respect for and awareness of the Deaf Community.
