PTK members attended a Regional Honors in Action Conference
Members of Alpha Gamma Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Cowley College joined chapters from other community colleges across the state and spent a weekend in Garden City, KS attending a Regional Honors in Action Conference. Those attending from Cowley College were, advisors: Nancy Ayers, Ryan Doom and Melissa Loibl and students: Justin Balmer, Bria Jackson, Roberta Anis, Chi Fung Ng, Jeremiah Bierle and Claudia Sotelo.
Activities focused on the international study topic, "The Democratization of Information: Power, Peril and Promise". Students listened to several lectures and then broke up into small seminar groups to discuss the topics.
Saturday afternoon was spent at the Windsor Hotel, an historic hotel no longer in use that was built in 1887. The hotel is currently owned by the Finney County Preservation Alliance who is working with the city to restore the hotel. Members were given a tour and then put to work, ripping up old carpet in the hotel.
Also during the conference, each chapter was asked to create a book and make a presentation on a topic of their choice.
There was still time for lots of food, fun and fellowship. The group went bowling, enjoyed ice cream treats at a nostalgic soda shop and hung out in the Garden City Community College student activities center.
