Area schools represented at Principal and Counselor Day
In appreciation of the efforts made by the principals and counselors at area high schools in helping students transfer to Cowley College, the school’s main campus in Arkansas City held a Principal and Counselor Day on Wednesday.
Following a welcome address from Cowley College president Dr. Patrick J. McAtee, campus administrators and directors provided an update on the programs they represent. While, director of admissions Lory West provided those in attendance with admissions and scholarship updates as well as placement testing information.
The principals and counselors on hand were then treated to a tour of the campus and a performance by the Tigerette Danceline. The day concluded with lunch in the Earle N. Wright Community Room, where principals and counselors were able to visit with graduates of their respective schools. Lunch was provided by Great Western Dining.
Krystle McCorgary, admissions representative, was pleased with the opportunity to have the close to 20 principals and counselors on campus.
“Along with getting updates, the principals and counselors were able to ask questions throughout the event,” McCorgary said. “We received good feedback and thought the day went really well.”
Along with Wednesday’s event, Cowley College is preparing to host Math & Science Day on Feb. 15, Fine Arts Day on March 7 and Junior Day on April 18. Enrollment for the summer and fall semesters will begin March 27.
Cowley employees that provided information during Principal/Counselor Day: Slade Griffiths, vice president of academic affairs; Sue Saia, vice president of student affairs; Ben Schears, vice president for institutional advancement; Janice Stover, director of academic enrichment; Lory West, director of admissions; and Jason O’Toole, director of Student Support Services Grant/IMPACT.
