Students get acquainted at Theatre Camp

Looking to continue the tradition of excellence in Cowley College’s Theatre Department, 25 students tooktheatre camp part in the school’s Theatre Camp held Wednesday and Thursday at the school’s main campus in Arkansas City.

The two-day camp consisted of team building exercises, games, challenges and initiatives.

“It is not so much learning about theatre as it is learning about each other,” Cowley College director of theatre and theatrical services Scott MacLaughlin said.

Along with the team building exercises and workshop activities, the group also had an opportunity to attend Music Theatre of Wichita’s production of “Honk” on Wednesday night.

During the camp, MacLaughlin informed the students that this year Cowley will be performing “White Christmas” in December and “Noises Off” in the spring. A Children’s Theatre production will also take place on Sept. 27.

Along with MacLaughlin and technical director of theatre, Jamison Rhoads, fellow Cowley employees Robin Graves, Sue Yoachim, Rochelle Hilario, and Lisa Grose were among the individuals assisting with the camp.

MacLaughlin started the annual summer Theatre Camp in 2005 and sees it as a way for the students to bond prior to the start of the school year.

“It serves as a chance to have a good time and learn who these students are,” MacLaughlin said.
