Hubler and Swopes to serve as new Student Senate Officers


Serving as the governing organization for Cowley College students, the Cowley College Student Senate (CCSS) will enter the school year with new leaders. Katey Hubler was inducted to the position of president of CCSS, while Brittany Swopes was named vice president.

Student SenateThe purpose of CCSS is to promote the interests of students to various councils, the administration, and other groups. CCSS supports extracurricular activities, student organizations and special events that promote mental and physical wellness and growth opportunities for a diverse student population.

Hubler will preside over the CCSS meetings, while she and Swopes will also plan meetings and coordinate events.

Katelyn Edwards served as the Student Senate president during the 2011-2012 academic year and Charley Garrison was vice president.

Hubler is from Ponca City, OK and is majoring in political science, while Swopes is from Newkirk, OK and is majoring in pre-athletic training.

Kristi Shaw and Sue Saia serve as sponsors of CCSS and had Hubler and Swopes serve as activity liaisons during the 2011-2012 school year.

“Both girls were extremely involved in Student Senate last year and are raring to go,” Saia said. “They have a lot of great ideas, a terrific work ethic, and we are excited to have them.”

The CCSS is located in the Nelson Student Center’s Game Room.
