Creative writers share their original works
Nineteen Cowley writers, over half of which were first time presenters, took center stage at Creative Claws’ first Writers’ Corner of the semester. An audience of 50 heard the works—poetry, songs, fiction—of the College’s writers in the Wright Room on September 20.
“It was an exciting evening of original works written by Cowley students,” says Marlys Cervantes, co-sponsor of the club and Humanities Department Chair. “However, we’ve grown so much that we’ll have to make some changes to shorten the time of the evening. It’s a wonderful problem to have.”
Cervantes and Ryan Doom, co-sponsor, each told the crowd about various aspects of the creative writing program at Cowley and upcoming opportunities.
The next meeting of the club is September 29 at 2:30pm in the Jungle conference room. At that time, as well as other business, the club will discuss the upcoming talent show, which will be November 3, and the next Writers’ Corner, which is November 15.
In addition to these activities, students were encouraged to watch for the next opportunity to submit works for publishing consideration in the online journal, Mile Marker Review. Submission should open in October.
Any student interested in creative writing is invited to the meeting, and everyone is invited to the events!
