Misty Maynard, an adjunct faculty member at Cowley College’s Mulvane
Center, and the owner of the Kechi Playhouse, was the recipient of seven
Mary Jane Teall theatre awards at the banquet held Monday at the Cabaret
Old Town in Wichita.
Maynard wrote the play “IX’TICHA** Spider-God of the Amazon!!!” which captured all seven awards it was nominated for. The Mary Jane Teall theater awards take place once a year and celebrate all the theater going on in Wichita. There were 49 productions up for possible nominations.
“IX’TICHA** Spider-God of the Amazon!!!” won awards in sound design, best ensemble cast, lights, costumes, lead male actor in a comedy, set design, and best city-wide comedy.
“IX’TICHA** Spider-God of the Amazon!!!” is a spoof of the 1950's science fiction horror films, such as Godzilla.
Maynard has taught a variety of courses at Cowley College, including public speaking, sociology, theatre application, psychology, integrated humanities, and interpersonal communications.
“She is very versatile and the students love her,” Cynthia Jones, Mulvane Center Coordinator said.
