Cowley to host A Night at the Opera on Nov. 4
World renowned operatic singer, Dominique Moralez, will take to Cowley
College’s Robert Brown Theatre stage for a special performance
on Friday, Nov. 4. The evening will also consist of performances by
the Cowley College Concert Choir and a yet to be announced special
The cost is $25 for the show or $45 for the dinner and show package. Tickets can be purchased by calling 620-221-2853. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:30. All proceeds will benefit the performing arts at Cowley College and Southwestern College.
Moralez most recently made his debut as Almaviva in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Danish National Opera. Over the past few years he has also performed in venues such as China, Japan, France, Denmark, and the Philippines.
Connie Donatelli, vocal music director at Cowley College, will lead the Concert Choir in their performance, which will consist of songs they performed at their Fall concert on Oct. 25. The songs will provide a musical journey around the world, with the Concert Choir performing songs in several different languages.
“I think the Concert Choir will lend itself really well to this concert and be an integral part of the evening,” Donatelli said. “This is an exciting opportunity for the Concert Choir to perform on a venue like this, with a professional operatic singer.”
Moralez completed his training at the Centre de Formation Lyrique of the Opera National de Paris under the instruction of Janine Reiss, Robert Kettelson, Michelle Wegwart, and David Zobel. Moralez received advanced training in the study of song literature at the Steans Institute of the Ravinia Festival under the instruction of Martin Katz, Margo Garrett, Pierre Valet, and Håkan Hagegård.
Moralez can be heard as featured Tenor Soloist on the 2009 recording of British composer Andrew Webb-Mitchell’s "Songs of Awe and Wonder" with text by Joanna Boulter.
Moralez has appeared as Tenor Soloist with Danish Soprano Helle Moralez in “Love Story” throughout Denmark, the Philippines, and in Hong Kong on tour in 2010 and 2011. "Love Story" continues with performances during the 2011-2012 season at premier festivals and venues in Denmark, including Hadsten Kulturhus for New Year Concert in January 2012, and at the Silkeborg New Year Concert in January 2012 with Denmark's musical theater star Maria Lucia. Moralez recently appeared with Helle Moralez and Grammy Nominated entertainer Howard McCrary in "Love Story In A Mid-Summer Night" in Hong Kong, China.
