Cowley Activity Awareness Team presents Behind the Mask
With the Cowley Activity Awareness Team’s monthly theme being “Behind
the Mask”, which focuses on coming out from behind the “mask” concerning
respecting differences when dealing with and respecting mental health
issues, diversity, stereotypes, and stigmas, featured speakers Sherri
Luthe and Aaron Bennett shared how these areas have impacted their lives
Monday evening in the Earle N. Wright Community Room.
Luthe and Bennett have learned to respect and embrace these areas in
their own lives and shared how it is important in life to not find a
group to fit into, but instead find a group that fits you.
Following the presentation, a mask decorating contest was held in the
Jungle. The event served as a way for students to reflect on what was
presented and also a chance to take part in an activity that brings all
Cowley students together no matter what their “Difference”.
Winners of the mask decorating contest will be announced at Cowley College’s
Halloween Dance on Thursday, Oct. 20. The first place winner will be
awarded a $50 gift certificate to Graves in Arkansas City, while second
place will be presented with a $25 gift certificate to the Cowley College
Cosmetology Department.
