Jazz Band, CC Singers shine in fall concert
The Cowley College Jazz Band and CC Singers electrified the crowd with
a fabulous fall concert Tuesday night in the Robert Brown Theatre.
The Jazz Band, under the direction of Josh Fleig, opened the evening by performing five songs. Wil Austin (piano), Sarah Enderud (trumpet), and Kendall Slovak (tenor saxophone) served as soloists on “Bright Eyes” by Bill Homan. Jesse Shore (trumpet) and Ryan Cells (trombone) then took turns as soloists on “Easy Money” by Benny Carter.
Austin had other solos in “Home Journey” by Gene Roland, and Loco-Motion” by Fred Stride. Ethan Goodwin (trumpet) also performed a solo on “Home Journey”, while Slovak had a tenor saxophone solo on “Loco-Motion”.
The final song performed by the Jazz Band was “Amber and Trinita” by Doug Beach. Goodwin joined Travis Duckett (alto saxophone) and Alex Smitley (baritone saxophone) as soloists.
Other Jazz Band members are, Jason Whitmore (alto saxophone), Octavio Matamoros (tenor saxophone), Maria Schmidt (trumpet), Devin Ruyle (trombone), Cameron Crabtree (guitar), Justin Davis (bass), Dustin Mast (drums), and Cody Waggoner (drums).
The CC Singers then took audience members back to the 1960’s by singing Beatle tunes as part of “Beatlemania”. Decked out in outfits that looked straight from the 1960’s the CC Singers sang and danced their way through 30 Beatles songs.
Connie Donatelli directed the performance, while JenniferBlatchford handled the choreography. Rose Ann Riley of Riley’s Originals provided the wardrobe, and Fleig retook the stage to play the bass guitar.
The CC Singers consist of Rebekah Anliker, Dylan Berry, Anthony Caldera, Alexis Denoncourt, Devin Dice, Brittany Dunn, Megan Hamlett, Rebecca Munoz, Lane Russell, Benjamin Stranghoner, Bryce Sund, Kristan Wiedeman, Kyle White, and Jason Williams.
The CC Singers performance featured the songs Daytripper; A Hard Day’s Night; Can’t Buy Me Love; Got to Get You Into My Life; She Loves You; All My Loving; Good Day Sunshine; Do You Want to Know A Secret; Here, There And Everywhere; Help!; If I Fell In Love With You; Revolution; With A Little Help From My Friends; Yellow Submarine; Here Comes The Sun; The Fool On The Hill; Eleanor Rigby; Michelle; Yesterday; Get Back; Hello, Goodbye; Love Is All You Need; Sgt.
