Alyssa Eli named recipient of $1,600 Union State Bank Endowed Scholarship
Continuing its support of Cowley College, Union State Bank has helped numerous students through an Endowed Scholarship they created with the school nearly 14 years ago. This year’s recipient of the $1,600 USB Endowed Scholarship is Alyssa Eli.
Shannon Massey, executive director of alumni and development at Cowley College, is grateful for the opportunity Union State Bank has provided students through the Endowed Scholarship.
“Their scholarship has helped many Cowley students afford their education over the years,” Massey said. “Alyssa was a hard working student from Derby High School who always focused on doing things to the best of her ability. She was a true leader in the classroom. We felt she should be rewarded for her hard work.”
At Derby, Eli was involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, National Honor Society and the Derby Marching Band. She was a Wichita State University Presidential Scholar and a Kansas Honors Scholar, and graduated in the top-10 percent of her class.
At Cowley, Eli is a member of the Concert Band and FCA. She is majoring in social work. Away from the school she is employed at Montana Mikes in Winfield.
“One of the reasons I chose Cowley was because it was good for me financially and this scholarship will help even more,” Eli said. “I love it here at Cowley.”
Union State Bank Community President John Sturd is glad to offer the USB Endowed Scholarship to deserving students such as Eli.
“Union State Bank is proud to partner with Cowley College to provide scholarships for students like Alyssa who are working hard to further their education,” Sturd said.
