Cowley College awards scholarships to students from 17 schools

 

The Student Services Department at Cowley College has awarded scholarships to the following students.

  • From Arkansas City High School: Jaci Goode, daughter of Robin Goode, is the recipient of a ACT Scholarship. At ACHS, she was involved in golf and band. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was a University of Kansas Honor Scholar. She is undecided on a major.
    Jacob Hernandez, son of David and Mandi Hernandez, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in football, track and the National Honor Society. He plans to major in Sports Management.

    Holli Mapel, daughter of Jay and Carrie Mapel, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, she was involved in AC Players and was a Big Sister in the Big Brother/Big Sisters program. She was awarded a Soroptimist Girl Scholarship and is undecided on a major.

    Madison McDowell, daughter of George and Heidi McDowell, is the recipient of a Trustee Scholarship. At ACHS, she was involved in basketball, golf, track, Kays, Usherettes, School Counts and was the senior class president. She was a member of the National Honor Society and is a Kansas Honor Scholar. She is undecided on a major.

    Garrett Metzinger, son of Tom and Marcia Metzinger, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, he was involved in FFA. He plans to major in machinery.

    Rhett Posey, son of John and Cheri Posey, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in soccer and tennis. He is undecided on a major.

    Matthew Postlewait, son of Scott and Susan Postlewait, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, he was involved in FBLA, track and basketball. He was a Student of the Year nominee in 2010-2011 and plans to major in education.

    Kelsey Wallace, daughter of Mike and Kris Wallace, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At ACHS, she was involved in the National Honor Society and 21st Century Leadership. She plans to major in veterinary science.

  • From Winfield High School: Alicia Feck, daughter of Monte and Lori Feck, is the recipient of a Academic Scholarship. At WHS, she was involved in softball, basketball, volleyball, Teen Police Academy, WRC Volunteer Service, Powder Puff Football, YEK, and FFA. She received All-Conference awards in softball and basketball and was named to the Principal’s Honor Roll. She plans to major in physical therapy.

    Caterina Albers, daughter of Christopher and Tranda Morrissey, is the recipient of an ACT Scholarship. At WHS, she was involved in Art Club, tutoring, volunteer work and the National Honor Society. She was named a Student of the Month and plans to major in library science.

    Wonder Derr, daughter of Harry Derr and Cecelia Whitmore, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At WHS, she was involved in FFA and was a member of the Honor Roll. She plans to major in non-destructive testing.

    Brooklene Donley, daughter of Carl and Chellene Donley, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At WHS, she was the girl’s soccer and volleyball team manager and was in the National Art Honor Society. She received staff Choice Awards and was named to the Honor Roll. She plans to major in art/education.

    Danny Keosythong, son of Tony Keosythong, is the recipient of a Academic Scholarship. At WHS, he participated in SADD, FFA and the Art Club. He received Staff Choice Awards and was a member of the Principal’s Honor Roll. He plans to major in liberal arts.

    Amanda Krook, daughter of Scott and Michelle Krook, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At WHS, she participated in cheerleading, orchestra, and choir. She was a member of the Principal’s Honor Roll and received outstanding scholastic achievement awards in choir and orchestra. She is undecided on a major.

    Christin Miller, daughter of Jimmy and Diann Miller, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At WHS, she was a member of the Principal’s Honor Roll and was involved in HOSA. She plans to major in nursing.

    Grandon Pickering, son of Rob Pickering and Shay Drake, is the recipient of a Criminal Justice Scholarship. At WHS, he was involved in FFA, HOSA, hockey and lacrosse. He was named to the Dean’s List and plans to major in criminal justice.

    Zachary Shogren, son of Brent and Jana Shogren, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At WHS, he participated in football, basketball and golf. He was twice named to the Principal’s Honor Roll and plans to major in accounting.

    Rigina Sithara, daughter of Patthana Sithara and Sounthone Soundara, is the recipient of a Pageant Scholarship. At WHS, she was involved in tennis, cheerleading, choir, Foreign Cultures Club, spirit squad, W Club, Link Crew, and Youth Entrepreneurship. She received the Staff Choice Award and was named to the Principal’s Honor Roll. She was named Miss Winfield and plans to major in biology.

  • From Cedar Vale High School: Michael Meloy, son of Mike and Susan Meloy, is the recipient of an ACT Scholarship. At Cedar Vale, he was involved in yearbook and the National Honor Society. He was a member of the Superintendent’s Honor Roll and was a Kansas Honor Scholar. He plans to major in accounting.

    Catherine Juul, daughter of John Juul, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Cedar Vale, she participated in volleyball, basketball, track, Student Council, Upward Bound, and was class president. She was twice named to the Principal’s Honor Roll and is undecided on a major.

    Jake Helphingstine, son of Teddie and Micki Helphingstine, is the recipient of a Career and Technical Education Department Scholarship. At Cedar Vale, he participated in football, basketball, track, National Honor Society and yell leading. He was named to the Principal and Superintendent’s Honor Rolls and was crowned homecoming king. He plans to major in non-destructive testing.

    From Douglass High School: Kandice Wright, daughter of Tye and Anne Wright, is the recipient of an ACT Scholarship. At Douglass, she was involved in FCA, volleyball, choir, madrigals, school musicals, SADD, FCCLA, KAYS, Forensics, track, National Honor Society, and was student body vice president. She was a Kansas Honor Scholar and Presidential Scholar and plans to major in business.

  • From Udall High School: Krysanna Allen, daughter of Eric and Mary Allen and Sherri and Marcus Elston, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Udall, she was involved in yearbook, Color Guard, National Honor Society, SADD, Drama, band, Forensics, dance, cheerleading, basketball, volleyball, and the Math Team. She was crowned Miss Udall and plans to major in culinary art or fashion.

  • From Wellington High School: Jayme Brown, daughter of Chris and Annie Brown, is the recipient of a Kansas All-Star Stem Scholarship. At Wellington, she was involved in music and art. She plans to major in nursing.

    Tonner Finch, son of Doug and Juana Finch, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Wellington, he participated in football and track. He was a member of the Honor Roll and is undecided on a major.

    Julia Hinman, daughter of Fredrick and Pamela Hinman, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Wellington, she was involved in volleyball, the National Honor Society and Student Council. She is undecided on a major.

    Amber May, daughter of James and Jessica May, is the recipient of a Trustee Scholarship. At Wellington, she was involved in BPA and FCCLA. She plans to major in nursing.

    Jennifer Smith, daughter of Bradley and Sharon Smith, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Wellington, she participated in volleyball and the Drama Club. She plans to major in social work.

    Brittany Walker, daughter of Jason and Amy Walker and Amber and Dustin Roper, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Wellington, she was involved in FCCLA, FFA and volleyball. She plans to major in criminal justice.

    Addison Wiley, daughter of Mike and Stacy Wiley, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Wellington, she was involved in cheerleading, FCA and SADD. She is undecided on a major.

  • From Wichita Northwest High School: Kaci Copeland, daughter of Sam and Merri Copeland, is the recipient of an ACT Scholarship. At Northwest, she was involved in Link Crew, Teen’s Hope, volleyball and softball. She was a member of the Honor Roll and is undecided on a major.

  • From Campus High School: Alyssa Jo Higgins, daughter of Tony and Tracy Jackson, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Campus, she was involved in FCCLA, Art Club, Teens Helping Elderly, Knitting Club, President’s Club, Multicultural Club, and entrepreneurship. She was a member of the Honor Roll and plans to major in pre-medicine/nursing.

    Ian Lamb, son of Tony and Charlotte Lamb, is the recipient of an Eagle Scout Scholarship. At Campus, he was involved in AVID, orchestra, and BPA. He plans to major in sports management.

    Shawn McIntosh, son of Jack Myers and Shawna Duff, is the recipient of an ACT Scholarship. At Campus, he was involved in Forensics, debate, jazz band, and BPA. He plans to major in psychology.

    Yesenia Ybarra, daughter of Mario and Lory Ybarra, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Campus, she participated in Link Crew, FCCLA, Student to Student, Student Council, and the National Honor Society. She plans to major in pre-nursing.

    Sophia Langerman, daughter of Rick and Susan Langerman, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Campus, she was involved in Link Crew, Teens Helping Elderly, National Honor Society, and was the baseball team manager. She is undecided on a major.

    Jared Zerr, son of Ronald Zerr, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Campus, he participated in baseball and spent a year in Link Crew. He plans to major in accounting.

  • From Derby High School: Crista Anderson, daughter of Jada Rosenberg, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Derby, she participated in soccer and was a Student of the Week and Student of the Month recipient. She is undecided on a major.

    Jared Anderson, son of Steve and Janelle VanBruggen, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Derby, he was involved in debate and Forensics. He plans to major in history.

    Sydney Seeby, daughter of David Seeby, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Derby, she participated in softball, debate, DARE, and American Sign Language Club. She was a member of the Honor Roll and plans to major in pre-medicine.

    Michelle McDowell, daughter of Stuart and Gloria McDowell, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Derby, she was a teachers aid, soccer team manager and was a Rachel’s Challenge school student representative. She is undecided on a major.

    Regan Rusk, daughter of John and Julie Speer and Michael and Gina Rusk, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Derby, she was involved in student council. She is undecided on a major.

    Rebecca Sinyard, daughter of John Morgan Jr. and Crystal Morgan, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Derby, she was involved in venturing crew 711. She plans to major in criminal justice.

    Jordan Smith, daughter of Joseph and Kelli Smith, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Derby, she was involved in JROTC and the Gay Straight Alliance. She plans to major in business administration.

  • From Mulvane High School: Cole Williams, son of Denny and Robin Williams, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Mulvane, he participated in football, basketball, baseball, and KAYS. He received All-League honors in football and baseball and is undecided on a major.

  • From Rose Hill High School: Caleb Sanders, son of Dirk and Robyn Sanders, is the recipient of an ACT Scholarship. He plans to major in forensic science and technology.

    Haley LaKous, daughter of Mike and Jonna LaKous, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Rose Hill, she participated in Scholars Bowl and art. She plans to major in art.

    Jonathan Spearman, son of Nathan and Kari Spearman, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Rose Hill, he participated in football, basketball and baseball. He was named Business Student of the Month for October 2012 and is undecided on a major.

  • From Belle Plaine High School: Brittany Balsters, daughter of Tammy and David Balsters, is the recipient of a Trustee Scholarship. At Belle Plaine, she was involved in softball, basketball, dance, SADD, National Honor Society, Letterman’s Club, and was the football team manager. She was a KU Honor Scholar and posted a 4.0 grade point average all four years of high school. She plans to major in pre-dentistry.

    Braiden Dick is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Belle Plaine, he participated in baseball. He plans to major in wood technology.

    Cheyenne Morgan, daughter of Tim Morgan and Jill Spillman, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Belle Plaine, she participated dance, Foreign Language Club and Letterman’s Club. She plans to major in natural sciences.

    Brett Warren, son of Scott and Lori Warren, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Belle Plaine, he was involved in baseball and cross country. He was a member of the Honor Roll and is undecided on a major.

  • From Clearwater High School: Chelsea Ast, daughter of Jan Tabing, is the recipient of an Academic Scholarship. At Clearwater, she was involved in KAYS, SADD, Link Crew, FCA, C-Club, Makeup-Crew, basketball, archery and track. She was a member of the Honor Roll and the school’s Homecoming Queen. She plans to major in art.

    Halle Brown, daughter of Clive and Susan Brown, is the recipient of an ACT Scholarship. At Clearwater, she participated in Scholar’s Bowl, the National Honor Society, and was a member of the Honor Roll. She plans to major in accounting.

  • From Flint Hills High School: Allie Vaught, daughter of Jim and Raye Vaught, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Flint Hills, she was involved in volleyball, softball and Student Council. She was a member of the Honor Roll and plans to major in nursing.

  • From Golden Plains High School: Joshua Korte, son of Norbert Korte and Shawnale Wahrman, is the recipient of a Beatrice Wright Endowment Scholarship. He plans to major in pre-law.

  • From Pennfoster Online High School: Mattison Pinion, daughter of Chris Pinion and Piper Burkhart, is the recipient of a Work Ethic Scholarship. In high school, she was involved in orchestra, choir, Student Council, FCCLA, and the spirit squad. She is undecided on a major.

  • From American High School: Heather Ashley, daughter of Ronald and Stephaine Hutchison, is the recipient of a Donald and Wilda Patterson Endowment Scholarship. She plans to major in nursing.

  • From Home School: Brandon McIntosh, son of Jason and Kelly McIntosh, is the recipient of an ACT Scholarship. During high school he helped with several volunteering projects. He plans to major in electrical engineering.
