Cowley students dress design nabs her tickets to Lady Gaga concert

dress designDesigning a dress inspired by Lady Gaga, Cowley College freshman Emily Loy’s dress design was chosen as the winner of the contest put on by radio station 96.3.

By winning the contest, Loy was awarded a pair of tickets to Lady Gaga’s sold-out concert at the Kansas City Sprint Center and provided with a one-night stay at the Westin Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center. She was also presented with a set of limited edition headphones.

“I like died, I was so excited,” Loy said. “I had never won something like that. I was lucky I won and it was definitely worth going.”

The dress Loy made had to be 100 percent wearable and made out of non-traditional materials. She made the dress using saran wrap, a plastic table cloth, tissue paper, paint samples and lace detail. Her roommate, Brianne Moore, who joined Loy at the concert, assisted in making the dress.

Loy came to Cowley from Wichita’s Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School and admires Lady Gaga’s fashion style.

“Her outfits are intricately detailed,” Loy said. “I take her look and apply it to my designs.”

Loy enjoys making dresses and wants to pursue fashion design.

“The Art Department at Cowley is so supportive and I get really inspired by the other students’ work,” Loy said.
